Sorry to hear about your illness. Hope your doing better. Personally, I life weights about 5 times per week. Not for competition purposes, but just for overall good health and of course, looking good for myself and the opposite sex.
I'd recommend a high protein diet with a balance of carbs and lots of veggie's. I usually consume chicken, fish and lean ground beef weekly. I also eat a large quantity of vegetables, fruit and whole grains (wheat bread, oatmeal, etc...).
As for supplements, I take glutamine and whey protein daily. This is in addition to my PE supplements but those are all supplements your body needs anyway, so win win.
Are you currently working out now and what type of workout regimen are you following? (i.e. weights, cardio, aerobics, etc...). |

| Depends on your goals...if your looking for size 2grams protien perpound bodyweight and about 3-4grams carb perpound bodyweight(depending on how sensitive you are to carbs)...
Make sure you eat around 5 times perday and make sure your pre/post workout protien shake are appropiate for your bodyweight and goals...
As far as supps go i would go with a multi vitamin, creatine,MsM,and amino acids..
What are your goals |

| At the moment, I do about 20 mins of listing about 10kg on each arm per day and about 100 press-ups before I go to sleep. My diet is a little stange though, I usually don't feel up to breakfast in the morning and often skip it and I eat a lot more later on in the day.

Skipping meals during the day is a bad thing. You need to eat at least 5 times per day to keep your metabolism idling high. |

| So... you want to gain weight but don't eat regularly throughout the day??? You have to get real bro... if you are serious about getting bigger, you have to get serious about your diet. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day... no other time in a 24 hour period of time do you fast as long as when you're asleep. When you're awake, you should be eating (clean) something every 3 hours or so from the time you wake up to when you go back to sleep. Eating a few big meals will only get you fatter. |

| I eat 6 meals a day but because of school 3 of those are weight gainer. The weight gainer i take is muscle milk and has about 638 calories per serving with milk I think. Also when you lift do low reps but heavy weights and find a good routine for yourself.
If you want to read good articles specifically for bodybuilding and gaining weight and lifting goto www.bodybuilding.com. They have great articles for lifting and what to eat, and when to eat. They also have stuff about supplements.
Oh yeah if you can't eat breakfast in the morning take the serving of muscle milk. That's what I do because I have no time to eat in the morning. |

The reason I got out of the habbit of doing so is that when I had hepititus, I ended up with bile in my stomach leaving it burnt. This meant that especially in the morning, eating was not a pleasurable experience. Quote: |

Think it often helps when you actually enjoy eating the foods that are good for you. |

| OK, I don't seem to have much problem with building muscle on my arms and sholders, however I want to do some work on my stomach and was wondering what people would suggest.
There are the obvious sit ups, however I understand there are over exercises and methods.

| The abs are a muscle just like any other... if you want to build them up, you work them out like any muscle. Get on a slant borad and grab a weight that you can do 12-15 reps and have at it. Don't fall into the trap that you need to do hundreds of crunches a day to get a well developed abs. Most people overwork their abs.. all you need is 4 sets of weighted crunches once or twice a week.
Now if you want to see them, you'll need to get your bodyfat to under 10%. A sound diet and exercize is all you need to sport a 6-pack.
Timmy, your avatar looks so much like my wife's ass it's uncanny. If that pic had a celtic tat above it, i'd swear it was my wife. I love that ass...

| Ok, I've got back into the habbit of eating breakfast, I'm eating cereal most mornings with egg, backon, etc in the weekends. Not really muscle related, but I've noticed a change in my ability to conenctrate since I've changed my diet a bit. |

| Well done timmy. I couldn't imagine NOT eating breakfast. I can't remember a morning that I haven't gotten out of bed and felt serious hunger pangs going on. |

| I was wondering, I've previously seen these bet like things that you strap to your abdomen and it sends electrical impulses into the muscles causing them to contract and become toned. Has anyone previously used one and/or are they effective. |

| I've heard good and bad things about those electro-stimulation devices. The bad things i've heard was that it is a passive contraction device so it's not as effective as crunches where you are applying active contraction. I think the explanation was something to the effect that the mind and body aren't in sync so the workout doesn't have the same effect as when you are purposely working it like when you do crunches. If i recall, it think it is a good addition to add while you're working a particular muscle. For example if you are going to work abs, you would attach the device to your ab muscle and set the contraction time to match the time it takes you to do a crunch. This will allow you to add intensity to the peak contraction of the muscle being worked. |

| I think I may give one a try, or at least check out the prices, I don't believe they are too expensive in the shops. Thanks for the quality post as usual, sikdogg. |
