Germany sunk over a thousand of our merchant ships between 1939-dec 1941 because we were supplying Britain with war materials under the lend/lease act. we actually fought them in North Africa first. at the same time we were fighting the Japanese off Midway and the Phillipines.

I go to bed to early to see it. I'm waiting for the DVD set to arrive sometime at the end of October. I think they go on sale Mid-October.

I still say although everybody was mad as hell at Germany for the 2 years Hitler was invading Eastern Europe we still never went over there. So Japan attacks Pearl harbor and we go to Europe first instead of Japan? I think Roosevelt and Bush are related as far as how they twist shit up. We had no damn business going to Europe first anymore than Bush did going to Iraq.

americans did a raid on Japan on april 18 1942 called the doolittle raid but it failed.

Actually, the raid it's self was a success. They started a very large fire storm in tokyo. It was the first and only time that bombers were launched from a carrier deck. Mitchell B-25's. The only bad part was, that the carrier had been spotted by a Japanese fishing boat before they had a chance to get close enough for the planes to get there, drop their bombs and get back. The Admiral was afraid that the fishing boat might radio and alert Japan. That wasn't the case as they found out later. They went ahead and launched, knowing that the B-25's would run out of fuel before they could return. The guys were on their own. Some made it to China but most of them ditched in the South China Sea.
This was a giant morale boost for the war effort that we were able to hit their homeland.
P.S. just went and read the wikipedia story. What I wrote was what I'd always heard.

"The War" show was talking about the words SNAFU and FUBAR. i never knew what those stood for. I'm glad they are showing what really happened in the battles and not the old propaganda versions.

Now who is making stupid statements? To suggest someone who has German heritage might be related to Hitler is NOT at all the same as calling a black person the N word. Even if you or any other person of German heritage were related to Hitler does NOT make you a Nazi.

Even today at 23 years old I still deal with ignorant fucks all the time who can't understand the concept that German does not equal Nazi.
