I have been measuring length BPEL from the top bone pressed. am i supposed to be measuring from the side bone pressed? if i measure from the side i am at 7.75" vs 7" from the top.

Nope. Measure from the top. The only way you can truly judge your gains is by bone pressing into the pelvic bone. This measuring point never changes.
