| I don't think that just doing one set of exercises will help with ones stomach appearance. An overall good eating habit and a decent workout schedule would be my advice. I know that if you workout your entire body and don't do a single sit up, you can get abs because your losing overall body fat by just getting the rest of your body in shape (I can prove this one to be true). Although you should keep your "core" strong as hell and do some sort of ab/lower back work out on a regular basis.
I'm not sure of the best exercise, but I can only say what I do and that's crunches and leg raises hanging from a bar. I usually do about 15 sets total per week and I sometimes do 2 sets one day and then 4 the next (no standard schedule, I just fit them in between other sets of exercises when I feel like it). Try doing push ups and crunches for 4-6 weeks (with a decent diet) and you should see very good results. That's a cheap and easy workout that I've done while traveling and did not have access to any workout equipment. I also ran 2-3 miles at least twice a week and it worked well. Good luck... |

I would tend to agree with this.

| No you dont understand. Its not body fat...its the actual abdomen muscle thats bulging out...so if i have a shirt on it still looks like I'm kind of fat. You've ever seen those bodybuilders whos abs are just like a big round stomache the side? thats how mine is progressing to be. |

| you might be right....I forgot about that...I have an ambilical hernia....and I remember an incident couple years back in school when I sneezed so hard that my abdomen caught a serious cramp and I had little nots on my abs and it hurted so bad. When I went to the nurse she said it was hard and it was a hernia...and it happend to me again a year after. I was suppose to get sergery on my ambilical cord....I have to get surgery too...but maybe I have a big ol' hernia all together. But this all started happening after I started using the rolling wheel for my abs....I think I must of been doin it incorrectly or overdid it was after that I started noticing my belly button turning into an outy. |

| I have to question the whole hernia thing. I was under the impression that you couldn't even walk if you had a hernia??? Am I missing something?

The last one you talked about here is what I was referring to..........where the hernia rips through the thin sheet of tissue that lines it..........my grandfather had that. I remember he had to wear a special "jock strap" like thing for it too.........

| I had some form of hernia when I was only 6 weeks old, so don't know or remember much about it? The 2 scars are a nice conversation piece for the ladies though! :) |

I have the same goal with ABS3 as yogis do with Downward Dog -- maximum flexibility. I want you to be able to make choices under the framework of the ABS3 guidelines -- to be able to adapt workouts based on your own life. -from the article.
Yoga works for me. But, I've only been doing it for 1 month. I really like the mindset, flexibility that it instills. I compare it to other internal systems with added stretches. FYI. http://www.menshealth.com/cda/articl...3cd____&page=4
I personally prefer vertical situps. I think the key is: 2 hours after your ab workout. Do one set of any ab exercises. The reasoning is, your muscles are fatigued and in growth stage. The last exercise, which isn't "too taxing" on your body. Will instantly throw it back into fatigue again with little effort. Try it, listen to your body. You will feel what I'm stating for yourself. http://www.menshealth.com/cda/articl...10cfe793cd____

I have a double hernia, It doesn't bother me too often "yet". The worst thing in my case, it looks bad sometimes. I've had this for over 22 years. |

| I also suffered a double hernia in the groin area. Got mine from throwing large chunks of broken concrete up into the back of a "Duce and a half" in Vietnam. Felt it go. Had bi-lateral hernia surgery and never had any more problems. The trouble with a groin hernia is;
They can strangulate and pinch off part of your intestine. This can lead to gangrene and emergency surgery.

Mine is just below the belly button, like a "V", both sides, I felt it just after I was messing with chunks of cement. I got all the work done, got a shower and sat down, then I went to stand up and had quite a time standing up straight. This lasted for a day or two, then it stopped hurting, but if I over do it, I'll feel it, but I really have to over do it to feel it. |

| If one is younger than 70 years I would suggest that a hernia, anywhere in the body, be repaired, because it can get stangulated as stated above. |

| Hey bud, you really should go and have that looked at. A knife and a doctor is better than the alternative, your life. I had a friend that had a bad hernia and let it go on for years. It got very big and one day he passed out. He had to be taken to the emergency room and they repaired the hernia and luckily he survived. The doctor told him he was very lucky and he should actually be dead. So get your ass to the doctor!
