| NOXplode contains stimulants so you can workout harder and longer... most pre-workout drinks do. I like it and think it's a good product...
You can take NOXplode if you're already taking L-Arginine supplements but since NOXplode also contains Arginine, you could lower your dose of L-Arginine or only take them on days you don't take NOXplode. |

| Just to clairify, even if I take NO-Xplode I should not exceed 45 minutes of lifting right? Also, should I be shooting for one gram of protein per pound of bodyweight or should I be shooting for a higher amount? |

| If you want to add lean mass, you want to shoot for 1-1.5 grams per pound of boddyweight. with a ratio of 50/40/10 of carbs/protein/fat. Remember that once you meet your daily requirements of protein that carbs are what is going to help you grow and repair muscle. Eating excessive protein will only be adding to the price of your piss.
The best sources of natural protein are egg whites and fish, preferably salmon and tuna. They have high ratings of absorbtion ratios with egg whites at i think 99%. They only things higher than this are whey protein and soy protein i think. There are many good articles of nurtition facts on that website. |

I have not noticed any kind of extra energy or stamina, but I've only been using it for a few days.
Also, the BSN protein requires a ton of milk and the shakes are super thick. It's really intense, so I may have to switch to a different brand. Aside from BSN, what are some brands of protein that are of comparable quality? |

| I would suggest MaxMuscle for protein drinks. Especially there Gourmet products tast very good and even taste good with water. The Gourmet products also have quite a few carbs to help utalize the protein. I also use the MaxxGlutamine from maxmuscle but thats only because i got a discount, i havent really experimented with other glutamine products. Also look into MuscleTech whey protein. But im pretty much hooked on MaxMuscle.
As far as the NOXPLODE, You have to access your tolerance first. Since i never drink caffein, it had a big impact with only 1 scoop, 3 weeks into i was taking 2 scoops. Your body might have a big tollerance for caffein. Try taking 3 scoops on a pretty much empty stomach about 35 min before you go to the gym, you will definately feel it then. Its like you have super powers. It makes you feel huge.
Oh yeah, and check out your erections on NOxplode. They tend to get even bigger because of the expanded blood vessles. |

| Does NO-Xplode contain a high dose of caffein? I almost never drink coffee, but I do have a very high tolerance for caffein. It's like I'm resistant to it. If I drink a warm cup of coffee in an attempt to stay awake and study I always fall asleep. I've only tried a two scoop dose, but if caffein is the key ingredient then I'll probably have to take at least three. I thought arginine was the key ingredient in NO-Xplode. Is it not primarily an arginine supplement?
Also, Big D, are you taking MaxxGlutamine because MaxMuscle protein doesn't contain glutamine? I have usually only purchased protein that already had glutamine in it so that I could save money on buying a separate product. |

| Im very sesitive to caffein to NOxplode give me a good boost, but its not the key ingredeint in my opion. I would send an email to support at BSN through there website, they are very good about answering technical questions, most of the time they are willing to help you find out what might also work for you. Arginine is another big ingredient that does it for you but also, i would ask BSN, i just know it gives me a major boost and i dont want to leave the gym while on it.
Im taking the Glutamine because everyone person that ive spoke with at nutrition stores and all the articles i read say that glutamine is one of the most essential supplements you need to take in order for you body to recover. MaxMuscle protein does contain glutamine but i dont think it is enough.
Read the advisory stuff on about NOxplode, it says to not take excess of 10g or mg of glutamine because it will deminish the effects of it. If you do get in touch with someone at BSN make sure to ask about that. Also i beleive NOxplode contains a small amount of glutamine. And remember you have to take this stuff in cycles, no more that 6-8 weeks at a time or your body will get used to it and depend on it.
After the 6-8 weeks, take about 2 weeks off suplementing, youll looose a little bit of weight but when you start your new cycle, youll gain it back faster and keep more of it on. |

| I can't believe that it's been almost four months since I last posted in this thread. Over this summer I have been focusing on trying to bulk up and gain weight, which I have more or less accomplished. I haven't weighed myself, but I can tell from looking in the mirror that I have gained around 10 lbs since I started this thread. However, more of it has been in the form of bodyfat than I had originally wanted (which I mostly attribute to higher carb intake). At this point I just want to maintain as much muscle mass as possible and reduce bodyfat. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to do this? I'm especially interested to know if anyone has used any supplements that aid in the reduction of bodyfat. I plan to cut carbs and figure out how to make my workouts as effective as possible. Thanks for all the advice that you guys have given me so far. |

| Rocky, From my experience, cutting carbs will not help, in fact you need those carbs to help burn fat. Keep your fat intake lower (no mayo on sandwiches, cut off fat from chicken, no pizza, no drinking alcohol, soda, basically anything with high fructose corn syrup). Try to stay away from stimulants such as caffeine as it could have a negative effect if not taken in moderation. Most of all, You will loose some muscle if you want to loose fat. You have too, i repeat have to do cardio at least 3 times a week for a minimum of 30min and i mean high intensity. Another bit, dont eat after 7pm. If you feel hungry, take a protein shake right before bed but make sure it has only 1-2 grams of sugar and not substitues, and make sure it has not fat. Ive dropped about 3-4% body fat in the past 2 weeks and about 4-5 lbs of just fat. Good luck. I hope it helps.

| Actually, cutting carbs will help alot. But for it to work you have to cut carbs down pretty low. If you plan to go this route you have to make sure that you increase fat intake. Lowering carbs to less than 100g per day will put your body in a state of ketosis. In this state, your body learns to use fat as an energy source in lieu of carbs. It is not a fun diet but it works extremely well. This diet is called a Ketogenic diet and is what the Atkins diet is based on. The problem with the Atkins diet is that it is designed for non-athletes and is not suited for building muscle size. A better form of the ketogenic diet is the Cyclical Ketogenic Diet (CKD). What this form of the diet do is keep carbs low for 5-6 days and has you carb up the remaining days. This allows your glycogen stores to fill and creates a much more anabolic environment than something like the Atkins diet does. You can do a search on CKD to learn more about it. A book called Bodyopus by Dan Duchaine is also a take on the ketogenic diet and is similar to the CKD.
Generally speaking, most people bulk up in the winter and cut up for the summer. This allows you to look your best during the warm season when you will be taking your shirt off at the pool or beach... |

| Actually, when I was into the body building thing, I loaded up on Carb's. The key is to change your exersise routine in order to burn the carb's and turn the extra bulk into muscle mass. I am 5'9" and back when I was doing this I was 240lbs and 8% body fat. At the time was benching 445lbs, but I was also using the needle if you know what I mean. Injecting Steroids, mainly Test but it worked. Not saying you should use injections, but Carb's to bulk up is what got me there. Granted, I was working out like crazy, at least 5 times a week using lot's of weight and running my ass off and doing stair climbers and all that shit. But basically I was doing 5 days a week 4 hours a day working every body part.

| In order to increase muscle size and decrease bodyfat, there are only two ways to do it from a diet perspective. High fat/low carb or high carb/low fat. Both work well and each person generally has a preference on one or the other...
My only issue with low carb diets is that it's tough to get enough fiber and my concern with high carb diets is that people tend to eat too much high glycemic carbs and get fat. If you look at carbs as a source of fiber (not as an energy source) and eat accordingly, i think that is prolly the best way to go as you minimize the risk eating too much (bad) carbs. |

| I'm pretty confused now. How do you eat a high fat/low carb diet? Eat fattening meat? And what is high in carbs but low in fat? All I know is that before I ever started this thread I went from having relatively high bodyfat to very low bodyfat and all I did was lift weights and eat a low carb low fat diet. I only changed this system because I wanted to gain a little muscle mass, which over time I have more or less done. I guess I need some examples of what types things you are recommending to eat and how much of it. And also, what supplements (if any) you would recommend taking. I'm not going to use steroids.

| You eat lean meats and take in more good carb sources like whole wheat, oats, and broccoli to name a few... Quote: |

| If you're already eating a good clean diet, then you should stick to that. What you want to be carefull of is keeping both carbs and fat low. You will need some source for energy and if you keep both sources low, your body will use protein as your energy source. |

| So if I eat a lot of tuna for example, would that be a good way to get "good fats?" And also, how do you know if you're eating too many good carbs? I'm still a little foggy on what are examples of good vs. bad carbs. |

| You need to break down your diet so that you know exactly what you're eating. You should know how much protein, carbs, and fats you're eating every meal. This is the only way to eat clean.
Good carbs are whole grans and vegetables.

| Hey Rocky,
I agree with what sikdogg and the the good doctor says about the high fat/low carb diet. One avenue you might want to explore is the South Beach Diet. It is a low carb diet similar to Atkins but different in that it promotes eating good fats (lean meats, fish and nuts) and good carbs (whole grains and fruits).
There's a lot of good, medically sound information in there and depending on what your diet is now, you may not have to do a whole lot of changing your diet to do South Beach successfully. The thing I like about it is that you can tweak it to suit your preferences as long as you work within the guidelines provided in the book.
Good luck,

| I don't feel comfortable with eating no carbs and getting energy only from fats. I think I will roll the dice and try to take in good carbs and burn them by exercising. This is the diet that I think I will try to follow. Please feel free to critique it:
Three meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) consisting of approximately 80g of "good" carbs and 50g of protein.
Two postworkout high-carb protein shakes consisting of 90g of carbs and 60g of protein.
One very low carb shake consisting of approximately 40g of sustained-release protein and hour or two before bed.
Please give me your thoughts and opinions. Right now I weigh 230lbs. I'm not sure what my bodyfat percentage is, but it's not bad. I'm looking primarily to reduce bodyfat without burning the muscle mass that I managed to build over the summer. The whole point of this thread is that I want to build lean muscle mass, but so far I haven't been able to figure out how to do it without also adding bodyfat. So although I would like to build more muscle, I basically feel that I have to change my goal at this point.
I can provide a sample training split too if that would make a difference. |

| Hey there, just a few words of advice
- its difficult to both bulk up and drop body fat at the same time, so you may want to focus on one.
- 1.5 hour in the gym is enough, also give yourself 2 days off a week.
- Progression - Step approach... think of 4 week cycles. For 3 weeks you progress as normal, consistanly increasing weight. The 4th week is basicaly a recovery week where you take the weights back down to week 1 progression and leave ample recovery time. Theres more to it then just that, but you can probably google 'step workout progression' and find a chart. If not ill post more when i have a bit more time.
- I dont have the numbers infront of me, but i think you are eating way to much protien and carbs, ill get more exact numbers for ya. There are some pretty set percentages for intake with weight lifting, and the only factor that would change that is if you used anabolics (trust me, you dont want to)
More to come later

| Firstly, right now my goal is to maintain the 5-10 lbs. of muscle that I worked to build over the last four months while also burning as much bodyfat as possible. I'm not looking to bulk up more per se, I just don't want to burn through muscle in order to also burn fat.
Right now I'm 230 lbs. and I don't want to lose a significant amount of that weight, I just want to shed some bodyfat. If I am eating too much protein and carbohydrates, what is a good amount of each to shoot for? |

| Over the last couple of months I have managed to gain a solid 5 lbs of muscle (going from 230-235 lbs) without any gain in bodyfat. It takes experimenting with diet and exercise to figure out what works best for you. I think the only difference between the time when I started this thread and today is that I've learned more about my own body, but this endeavor just like PE is a constant learning process. I did not take Slap N Jerk's advice, but I think he's right about the cyclical nature of things. Appetite and energy levels can be very cyclical. I'm still open to any and all suggestions because I have noticed a big difference in the attention that I've been getting from the ladies since a year ago. It really makes me want to step my PE game up. |
