Thanks for asking bozoballz.
Yeah, it hurts like hell. I have an appointment with the Orthopedist on Wednesday. He moved my appointment up from the 21st of Aug. because I have been having my hand go to sleep when I sleep at night. No, not from laying on it, just from sleeping with my arm straight out to help with the pain.
He said this is not a good sign and is really recommending surgery.
Damn, I have so many things going right now, it's just not a good time. I have 4 distinct tears and 2 places that are just a wrong move away from tearing.
I've been living with the pain and doing all the things I have to, for over 6 months now. Mrs JP says I'm getting grouchy and I probably am. Maybe I can find the time in the next month or so to go get this cleaned up.

try also HA which is Hyaluronic Acid. try to get the pure stuff. it really works on a lot of skin and joint problems.

Yeah it really sounds like you need the surgery soon. I hope I can get away without something like that but if it becomes unavoidable then oh well. I have a friend who recently went thru the operation. Shes about your age. Her recovery is doing well. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Well...I DO like the Miller Chill.
The Orthopedist gave me a Cortosone injection in the inflamed Bursa yesterday.
It does feel some better this morning. He gave me a stronger RX of Vicodn and some Xanax to help me sleep. He told me not to consume alcohol while taking these, so Slick...Who do I listen to?

See, especially when they put that "invitation" (I mean, label) right there on the RX bottle stating that alcohol will intensify the effect! That's all I need to know. Cheers! Oh, and I prefer hole ass...

I think I have this:

http://orthopedics.about.com/cs/shou...separation.htm

Type II. I really have not given it proper rest. I'm not going to work out for 2-3 months and then start slow. Should do the trick.

Update

My shoulder is about 95% now. The exercises and supplements, watching what and how I lift and not putting too much strain on the rotator cuff, have me feeling pretty good right now. I'll update again when I feel that it is healed and I'm 100%.

You may feel good now but the tears aren't going to repair themselves without surgury... Putting off the surgury will only buy a small window of time as sooner or later, you will lift something wrong or twist your shoulder a certain way and BANG... you're right back to square one. Good luck to you...

Yeah good luck JP. As far as my update I went to the Dr. a few weeks back and have been out of work for the last 2 weeks. The good news in my case is that my ligs are not torn. I do have inflammation at the AC joint and the beginnings of arthritis. Too much heavy lifting seems to have caused the problem and is common in people who are trying to bulk up. Time off and a lifting lighter weight with more reps should do the trick. We'll see.

In any case it feels better but I have to be careful how I use it etc... pretty much what sikdogg said^

Well thank you, Dr. Gloom. Yeah, dogg, I know you are right, but I will do anything to keep from getting cut. Not that I'm afraid of surgery, I just don't want the lengthy down time and re-hab to recover. You just can't imagine how aware I am of this injury and I think through, every time I get ready to lift or use the shoulder. I am NOT going to let this fuck up my life....Got way too much to do.

I'm putting this in the sore shoulder thread. Not my injured shoulder, my right one.

Had a great time today, went up to my buddys place, he has a great gun range set up and he invited me up to do some shooting today. He had changed out his old 40 gal, elec. water heater and asked if I would like to help him fill it full of holes before he hauled it off. I have had a Remington Mod. 710, 30.06 in my gun cabinet for a quite a while now. I have a Bushnell 3X9 scope and I have never had a chance to sight it in. I had bore sighted it, but you can only get close doing that. Anyway, I went through about 35 rounds shooting at that water heater and a few targets to fine tune. My 30.06 went right through the boiler. My 30.30, would just make a dent. AND, yes, my shoulder is very sore now.

^oh ya... be careful. Sounds like you had fun tho.

I went to Physical Therapy this week and it all finally came together. When I was a boy my dad made me pitch too much and as a consequence my shoulder rolls forward. A note to any young Dads out there, do not over pitch kids in little league, their shoulders are still developing. Its not recommended to train harder till HS. Seems my Dad was living thru me at that time... well now I'm paying the price.

So my shoulder rolls forwards and with the weight lifting has caused what is called an impingement where there is inflammation of all those tissues around the AC joint. I was taught proper posture, basic I know, but by really putting my shoulder blades together I'm able to lift without pain. I can't bench press yet but after a few months or so I should be in good shape. For now I need to work out my back and can do arm work... carefully. I also have limited internal rotation due to all that pitching. I was given the "sleeper stretch" to help correct that.

PT said I may never get that shoulder to be where it should be but I can be pain free and able to lift.

I was a pitcher when I was younger. Mi Dad taught me a under hand pitch with a rise to the ball. When you threw the ball your arm would follow through around the 4:30 : 5:00 o'clock level. You would do the same Intro though. The ball would rise about 12' from the batter. He He I was pitching at one game a no hitter into the fourth when the called me on a tech. saying I had pitched too much in a previous game. I Luv Mi Dad! He will be 81 shortly.

UPDATE:

After 6-7 weeks of PT I still am having problems. Saw a Dr. today and he diagnosed me with AC arthritis. So the problem is more arthritic then inflammation but the inflammation doesn't help. So I'm set back six ways to Sunday or whatever they say. Guess this is what happens when you try to be a weight lifter in your 30's.

On top of this I have piriformis muscle syndrome which causes terrible sciatic pain. I'm a bundle of pain these days.

Anyway I have to find a way to work with all this and still try to have some type of workout. Jeez if I'm this much of a mess at 36 I can't wait to see where I'll be when I'm 60.

Aint nothing worse than to fuck up your shoulder. The only thing I would suggest is to drop down the weight and just do a bunch of reps. Dont overdo it. But you can still get a good pump using light weights. Just do what your shoulder will let you even if its 5 pounds.

There has been progress. Thanks for asking.

A few months ago I started to take a high-potency calcium supplement which began to help the shoulder. As that slowly progressed the sciatic pain became much worse till the point I was crying in pain taking 8-10 ibuprofens/day, unable to sleep due to pain etc. That was at its worst.

Since then I've been seeing an orthopedic specialist who has been giving me back adjustments... 3 adjustments to date. I'm much better but healing is very slow.

The adjustments seems to have helped my shoulder too. In recent weeks I've been able to do pressing exercises which I haven't done in 6 months. Still not pressing what I used to but at least there is progress.

So I'm on the mend and have seen to it that my exercises are much more efficient and don't cause injury.
