| Just got back from my 3rd walk on the track; I did about 18 laps today. I was feeling a bit sore from yesterday's walk but I didn't let that stop me. However today, I was more aware of the left heel pain during the walk and I feel that today's session was not as intense as yesterday's. I know one thing though; I'm going to have to be really careful about how I do the physical exercise at least until after I have a chance to see the doctor in September. I hope this is something that will not require surgery but one way or another, I am going to have to have some relief from this. It's like my heel is sore all the time and the times I am not feeling it is when I'm walking and the adrenalin or endorphins are kicking in.
I'm supposed to meet with my trainer in the morning for my first session. I'm going to tell her about everything and see what she says. I'm hoping she will set me up some kind of aquatics program that is no impact or very little impact as far as my foot is concerned. In any event, I'm going to do as she directs because I know she knows what she is talking about and knows how to help me get what I want out of this. I'm not quite as upbeat as I was yesterday but I am still determined to see this through. |

| I would hope you can get on a recumbant stationary bike or even an eliptical stepper that will keep alot of stress off your heel, you need cardio, cardio, cardio. Also I hope she gets into into some resistance training to get your muscle up and increase your BMR. I get a little cautious of "Trainers", everybody and their friggin' dog thinks they're a trainer! Hell even 10 said he was a trainer there for a bit (Just kidding 10, I'm sure you were great ) Anyways, if she's got a proven track record and great referals then listen, otherwise check with the boys here at Betterman first. It's all pretty simple though, just burn off more than you take in. |

| Sonic, the gym does have steppers and stationery bikes. I'm not sure if they're recumbent as I don't know what that means. But it looks like they have every kind of device or facility to enhance whatever you need, whether it's cardio, resistance training or whatever. They have racquetball and handball courts as well as group exercise areas. I feel sure I won't ever get into those things but I do plan to make use of the cardio, aquatic, and resistance equipment they have. |

You have to always be thinking positive no matter what the subject is. When I go to the gym Im thinking positive that Im gonna lift the weight. When I go to the bar Im thinking positive Im gonna fuck that good looking woman on the other side of the bar. Just remember thinking positive never hurts unless your a pessimist.

| First session with the trainer Hey folks,
First off: let me clarify something because I think you guys might have took something I said the wrong way. When I said I wasn't quite as upbeat as yesterday in the post from yesterday, I really meant I wasn't as "high" physically and mentally from the previous day. But I was still upbeat. Still positive about what I am doing for myself. The level was not as high mainly because of the heel pain being aggravated by my over-ambitious walking pace. I'm sure that before the heel pain started, the pace I walked at (pretty fast clip) would have been no problem. But make no mistake about it; I AM positive about what I am doing and know that it is in my best interests to be/stay that way. Maybe I should have just said what I meant instead of giving you all the wrong impression
Now for today. I had my first training session with my trainer today. It was a little tough but very good. We started out doing a slow lap around the track then she put me on what I call an elliptical stair stepper. It's like a stair stepper except the pedals move in an elliptical fashion whether you are going forward or backward. She had me to do a mile on that machine going forward and reverse while keeping my heart rate between the bounds of the target heart rate. My impressions of that machine? Doing 5 minutes on that machine is like walking for 20 minutes on a track! But it was also very good in the fact that when I was going forward on it, I experienced NO heel pain! I did experience some heel pain when I went backwards on it, but the pain was manageable. When I got off of that machine my legs felt like rubber; been a while since they felt that way.
We then did some stretching exercises for my calves, hamstrings and lower back. She showed me the proper way to get up and down on the floor mats and she tested my upper body strength. Then we talked a bit about different things, diet included. The net result of the session was that, according to my trainer, we are about a day ahead of schedule because she thought that I was not going to be as flexible as I was. She was also VERY impressed that, after 5 minutes on the elliptical stepper, I wasn't winded. Hence, she had me to do a whole mile. She said a lot of people get really winded after 5 minutes on the machine. I did a mile in 16 minutes.
I'd say today's workout was the most intense this week, but it should have been. And overall, I am pleased with the progress I've been making. I'll have one more day to work out this week then off for the weekend. I'm planning on going to the gym 5 days a week (the days I work) because on the days I am off, I am usually out of town.
I definitely do not regret taking the leap to join this facility. It has been a positive experience from the word go and I have no doubts that I will be able to get this weight off, get off my high blood pressure medication and ultimately tone/build some muscle.

| Great stuff now just keep it up. This is going to have to be part of your life just like eating sleeping and shitting so start to like it. You'll sleep like a baby and start feelin' great just find some good diversions or rewards other than food or something. |

Your trainer, is she HOT or is she a nice woman?

| You're right, Sonic. It is going to have to be part of my lifestyle from now on. So far, it's good but I know it's only been a week. But with the wide variety of equipment and things to do there, I doubt that it would become boring at all. The only thing that might throw a kink in the chain is if or when I move. But I've decided not to worry about that until the time comes and for now, just to enjoy getting into doing something good for my body and health.
For Loki: umm, you are too funny! I've known several ladies that were as you say "hot" but still nice people. As far as my trainer goes, she is nice looking but it's a strictly professional relationship as far as I am concerned. There are, however, some truly "hot" looking ladies that do go there to work out. I'm sure there are some (if not many) men that use the gym as a place to meet women but I am not one of those people. Even if I were, a lot of those women would be out of my league, at least until I can take this weight off. |

| I went to work out today and had a pretty good workout. I did a mile on the elliptical stepper in 15:32 so that was a little faster than last week. But I did 20 minutes on the machine and went a mile a 1/4. The stretching went ok and I was able to again do 20 semi push-ups but it was tough.
Apparently the scales I weighed on last week were not accurate because I tried weighing today and could not get a believeable weight. There was another set of scales out in the exercise area so I used them. Those scales said 346. That was a bit of a downer to see and it is probably correct. However, I am still determined to get this weight off no matter how long it takes.
Now, I have to get ready for work. More on this later. |

| I think you should probably stay away from the chronic scale thing. Like measuring in PE it can be destructive to your mindset. Scales will not tell you how accuratly you are losing/gaining because the way your body holds water or even the fact that you are gaining muscle which is heavier than fat (I'm sure you've heard it a billion times) which is very true. Many professionals in the fitness world stay away from scales for the most part. |

| I've heard that too, Sonic. What may be a better approach is to take measurements every so often (maybe monthly or bi-monthly), compare the inches and not focus so much on the scale values. I realize that obsessing over the scales is, in a way, setting yourself up for failure due to the havoc it wreaks on the mindset just like you said.
I think in retrospect, I was just so eager to want to believe that I lost all those pounds that I chose to ignore the thoughts that said the scales may be inaccurate. But regardless of whether it was or was not accurate, I am going to continue to work hard at getting this weight off. I'm choosing to not let some thing like that stop my progress now. I'm not having it at all. I may never be what some refer to as "buff" but I am going to give it my best effort, consistently as long as I am physically able to do so. I am NOT stopping staying physically active doing something that will bring me closer to my health goals and maintain them once I've attained it. |
