| Thanks 10 and JP!
I really appreciate the support from you all because it does help to keep me motivated though I am not dependent on it. I got back from my workout today and boy, was it a good one! I still did 30 minutes on the elliptical machine but I went farther and burned more calories than I have done to date. I did 1.91 miles and burned around 170 plus some odd calories. Before this, I was in the 1.8 mile distance and 150 calorie range. I was sweating good so I know it was one of the better sessions on the machine.
As for push-ups, I thought I was supposed to go for 34 and did try it but really only made 33 full push-ups. That last one was a killer for sure! I only got about halfway up and then couldn't go any farther. After I got back and read my post from yesterday, I was relieved because it was 33 and not 34 I was supposed to go for. It's baby steps but I am telling you it feels good to know that you are doing just a little bit better than you were doing yesterday. There may be days come when I may not do as good as I did on the previous day but I'm not worrying about that at all. My main focus is just to push a little bit harder each session and do something more than I did last time.
As far as the elliptical machine sessions go, some days feel a little bit better than others and sometimes I don't quite do the distance that I did the day before. But I don't let it get me down and find it is always a good workout because I do get cardio benefit from each session.
I noticed after doing the workout today it was easier going up the stairs to exit the building to come home. It was like I just had more energy or something; I really can't quite put my finger on it but it was a good feeling.
So for no longer than I've been doing this, I'm seeing positive results in my physical ability to move my body around. One other thing I'm noticing is that I'm starting to get a different image of myself in my mind's eye; it's one that has me at my goal weight and confident in my ability to achieve the goals I set. I see that person getting stronger every day from resistance training to build body parts that need building and trimming the parts that need trimming. This makes me happy because it has been a LONG TIME since I saw the picture of that person in my mind. I know I don't have the physique to be what most consider a "hunk" BUT I *can* work on what I *do* have and make it the best it can be!
It's just a matter of time before I break 300. From there, a couple of weeks more and I get to sport around in a friend's Vette for a weekend THAT is going to feel good for sure!
Regards,
-guitardude |

| Hey Dude. Did your friend offer his Vette as an incentive for hitting the 200's?

| Yes he did JP but I already had the motivation and commitment to lose the weight before he said anything. To tell you the truth, I do think about it sometimes but not all that much. I'm just really in the mindset of conquering this battle once and for all. Having the Vette for a weekend is icing on the cake but it is not the prime motivational factor at play. |

| Uber, you are too funny! Now that I go back and read what I wrote, it could have been taken either way but I wasn't thinking about Vicky at that time. But I would not doubt for a second that sporting about in that Vette would be way more fun than driving a car. |

For crying out loud 10, you'd give up a Ferrari for that?? Where's your priorities? Where's your testosterone?? If I had either one of those cars for a couple of days I could pick up more of those Vicki-who-ever-she-is bimbos in a couple of days than 20 guys could handle
With guys some things just got to come first whether it's cars, sports, food, drinking or whatever, woman are just an enhancement to the whole picture be it for a relationship or sex. Just my and many other guys I know opinion. You make women your priority and you can kiss your sane ass good-bye!!! |

It would be getting the most fun for the time alotted. For example, if you had a chance to drive a Ferrari for 10 minutes or spend 3 hours in a naked wresting match with Vicky Vette, which would you take? I would take the roll in the hay anytime under those conditions. On the flip side, you can only have sex for so long and then the fun value would tip the other way. However with somebody as hot as she is, I'd be tempted to say forget the car and hit the hay!
The question I posed assumes the two are mutually exclusive but I see your point also. With two days and a sharp car, you can pick up a hot woman. |

| How about you pay attention to the task at hand, Dude.
You have a lot of work in front of you. Sorry to keep flogging your sorry ass, but I don't want to see you lose your resolve, again. Let's stop spamming guitardude's thread and continue to give the support and encouragement that David needs. This is a monumental undertaking that you are working on, dude. This is YOUR whole life. It's not going to be worth piss unless you get that weight off. I'm only saying these things, because I care.

| Guitardude, just went back and read this. I don't want to come off sounding sanctimonious because you and me go back almost 3 years. Hell buddy, you and I were PMing even before your first post. I just want you to know, that the well wishes, advice and attaboy's that you receive from the members that have taken the time to post here, are genuine. You've joined the Betterman family and as such, we do care and will help in any way that we can.

I appreciate all the support you and the others here at Betterman provide because every little bit of encouragement helps. I can't really put it into words but this time around, I am feeling different inside and in a good way. I know it is not always going to be easy but at the same time, I know that exercising is helping me a great deal right now. It is helping to change my attitude about how I respond to failure or not meeting a goal. In short, it's giving me a foundation of success which I can build on to and apply in other areas of life that need improvement.
I've lived below my potential for far too long because I allowed setbacks and circumstances to keep me down. This behavior is not acceptable to me any longer so I am now resolved to building my life the way I want it in every aspect. Life is too short to live unhappy and unfulfilled. Getting (and keeping) this weight off is a very big validation in my mind of the power within to change the quality of life I am experiencing and to achieve the goals important to me.
Anytime you think I need a swift kick to get me back on track JP, do it. But my mind is made up to DO this until I am successful, then KEEP it that way so I don't get back to this place again. |

| While I'm here, I might as well post about yesterday's workout. Overall, it was good.
I did 1.94 miles in 30:02 and burned either 174 or 176 calories on the elliptical stepper. However on the push-ups, I could only manage to get 26 or 28 of them. I had a goal of 34 but the old muscles just would not cooperate. I guess I've pushed them pretty hard considering how much use they got before this. And rather than dwelling on the negative of not making goal on the push-ups, I started doing crunches. I got 15 of those in and then did my stretches.
When I was done with the workout, I hit the shower and freshened up. It felt great, too. I'm going to start spending time in the sauna soon. I hear it's good for the body. I do know that I absolutely don't regret joining this health club. At all. I am continually amazed at the difference it is making about how I feel on the inside no matter how much or little I say it here on the thread. |

| This is what we want to hear. That note of determination. Now, don't come home home after your workout and plop down, keep that energy level flowing. Clean up your digs. Energy breeds energy. The best to you, buddy.

Always focus on the positives of each workout. That's what I do. Somedays I might do better at one muscle group than the other. Always focus on the positive.

| That's what I'm doing 10. I'm really making a conscious decision each time I go work out to do the best I can that day. My goal is to improve on every aspect of the workout in some small way. I know some days I might not do as well on some things but rather than look at the negative, I choose to look at it like I am doing something positive for my body and overall health. And so far, it's working because I am now starting to get comments from folks that they are noticing I am losing weight. That's very good to hear because it just adds to the encouragement I'm getting here on Betterman and fuels the motivation to keep on going.
I have no doubt at all that I am going to make this goal. Once I make it, then I'm setting up another goal to further build the body but for now, I feel good about what I'm doing. |

| Great workout session! Just got in from my workout this morning and it was a great one. On the cardio machine, I did 1.97 miles in 30:03 and burned 186.x calories! I couldn't believe it but the stats were right there staring me in the face. Another good thing about today's workout was that my heart rate was consistently lower throughout the workout than from, say last week. Average heart rate was something like 122 and seldom did it get above 136.
For the push-ups, I did 34 of those but I was *really* having to focus and push myself to keep going. I wondered going into doing them how it would turn out. But rather than giving myself a chance to dwell on negative thoughts, I just said to myself "There's no time like the present to do these push-ups" so I did them and kept focus on what I was doing. The last one was very tough but I made it. After that, I did 16 crunches and then started stretching out the muscles.
I've been trying to break 15 minutes for a mile on the elliptical machine since I started but haven't made it yet. Perhaps sometime soon that will happen. What would really get me jazzed though is doing 2 miles in 30 minutes. But I'll be satisfied just getting a good workout whether I actually break 2 miles or not.
Tomorrow, I'll be doing the last free session with the trainer in the pool. I have no clue what she's going to have me do but whatever it is, I'll give it everything I've got. I'm hoping that she'll tell me after the session tomorrow that I'm ready for doing an aquatics class two times a week and then doing my other stuff on the other days. Also, I intend to ask her when does she think I'll be ready to do some resistance training. I'll post here after the session to let you all know how it turned out. Gotta go now; work to do and all. |

| Something else I'd like to comment on really quick. Notice how much more energy you find you have once you've stuck to an exercise regimen for a spell? It's amazing!!! People always wonder how I can get up at 4:30am and hit the gym at 5am.................I always tell them I have to go.........it's a must.
