As often happens I am not impressed with the sports science on this. According to the stats, the average 40 something, is able to jog along at a decent pace for a couple of mile. Well I don't think so. Most 20 somethings would find this hard. Unfortunatly, this leaves me not knowing what is a reasonable aim.
My opinion is it all really depends on your activities you enjoy, if you participate in sports, and you are already "healthy" then do cardio that relates to that activity. If you are not into anything that active, such as sailing (which is still hard work), then doing proper cardio to maintain fat levels would be waranted. Such as 2 days of treadmill work, a day of swimming and two days of interval training, which is ultimate for fat loss.
